Injection FAQs
What’s the difference between Botox and Dysport?
Botox and Dysport are FDA-approved neuromodulators that temporarily relax specific facial muscles to smooth wrinkles and prevent new lines from forming. Both contain botulinum toxin type A, with Dysport offering a slightly different formulation that may spread more naturally and kick in faster.
How are they injected?
Our nurse practitioner uses ultra-fine needles to make precise injections into targeted facial muscles. The procedure takes 10-15 minutes with minimal discomfort – most clients describe it as a quick pinch. We map your facial anatomy and movement patterns to ensure natural-looking results that won't interfere with your active expressions.
What can I expect after treatment?
You can return to most normal activities immediately, though we recommend avoiding intense workouts for 24 hours. Results typically appear within 3-7 days and last 3-4 months. Some clients experience minor swelling or tiny bumps at injection sites that resolve within hours. No downtime means you can schedule your treatment between activities without missing a beat.
Will I still look natural and be able to make expressions after injections?
Absolutely. Our goal is natural enhancement that moves with your active lifestyle; just with smoother, more refreshed-looking skin. We pride ourselves on results that enhance your natural aesthetic.
How is filler different?
Filler (hyaluronic acid) is a synthetic material that only gives volume to the face, it doesn’t inhibit muscle movement. It is injected with a fine needle in the area of desired fullness. You may notice some lumps and bumps of product until it fully integrates with your skin.
I’m scared I’ll look fake with filler.
There are a lot of poor filler examples out there, trust me. However, it’s very possible to have filler injected that makes you look naturally refreshed and to give subtle volume to the face. At Technique, we start with low doses and slow building of product over time which gives a more natural appearance.
Resurfacing FAQs
How do these treatments work?
Laser Resurfacing: We use advanced fractional lasers like Fraxel to create controlled micro-injuries in targeted areas. The laser energy penetrates deep into the dermis, leaving surrounding healthy skin intact to speed healing. This precision approach allows for dramatic results with reduced downtime.
Microneedling: The SkinPen device creates precise, sterile micro-channels at varying depths depending on your skin's needs. This controlled injury triggers your skin's repair mechanisms, flooding the area with growth factors, collagen, and elastin. We often combine treatments with serums or PRP for enhanced results.
What's the downtime like?
Laser Resurfacing: Expect 5-7 days of redness and peeling, similar to a moderate sunburn. Your skin will feel tight and may flake as it heals. Most clients can return to desk work in 2-3 days but should avoid intense sun exposure for about a week.
Microneedling: Minimal downtime with 24-48 hours of mild redness and sensitivity. You can typically return to normal activities the next day, though we recommend avoiding heavy sweating and direct sun exposure for 48 hours. Perfect for busy schedules between adventures.
How many treatments will I need?
Laser Resurfacing: Significant improvement is often seen after just one treatment, though 2-3 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart may be recommended for optimal results depending on your skin concerns.
Microneedling: Most clients see best results with a series of 3-4 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Maintenance treatments every 6-12 months help preserve your investment and keep skin performing at its peak.
IPL & Chemical Peels for Discoloration
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light): This advanced light therapy targets pigmented cells and broken capillaries using broad-spectrum light pulses. IPL is highly effective for treating sun spots, age spots, melasma (for select patients), and facial redness from years of outdoor exposure.
Chemical Peels: We offer medical-grade peels including the VI Peel, which uses a precise blend of acids to remove damaged skin layers and reveal fresh, evenly-toned skin underneath. These peels are safe for all skin tones and effectively treat sun damage, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation from acne, and uneven skin tone.
How do these treatments target discoloration?
IPL: The light energy is absorbed by melanin (pigment) and hemoglobin (red blood cells), causing pigmented spots to darken and flake off over 7-14 days while broken capillaries are sealed and absorbed by the body. It's like having a reset button for sun damage accumulated from alpine skiing, lake swimming, and hiking.
Chemical Peels: Controlled acid solutions dissolve the bonds between damaged skin cells, allowing them to shed and reveal newer, more evenly pigmented skin. The VI Peel penetrates deep enough to address stubborn discoloration while remaining gentle enough for sensitive skin types.
What's the treatment experience like?
IPL: Each pulse feels like a quick rubber band snap followed by cooling. Most facial treatments take 20-30 minutes with minimal discomfort. You'll leave with slightly darker spots that gradually flake off over the following weeks.
Chemical Peels: The VI Peel involves a comfortable application process with mild tingling. You'll experience controlled peeling for 3-7 days, revealing brighter, more even-toned skin.
What can I expect after treatment?
IPL: Treated pigmented spots will appear darker for 7-14 days before flaking off naturally. Some clients experience mild swelling and redness for 24-48 hours. You can return to normal activities immediately but must avoid direct sun exposure and wear SPF religiously for 5-7 days.
Chemical Peels: Peeling typically begins 48-72 hours post-treatment and lasts 3-7 days. Your skin may feel tight and look slightly red initially. Most clients can maintain their normal routine while peeling, though we recommend avoiding intense workouts during the peeling phase.
How many sessions will I need?
IPL: Most clients see significant improvement after 2-3 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Maintenance treatments every 6-12 months help prevent new damage from accumulating, especially important for outdoor enthusiasts.
Chemical Peels: While you'll notice improvement after one peel, a series of 3-4 treatments provides optimal results for stubborn discoloration. Many clients schedule seasonal peels – perfect timing before ski season or after summer hiking months.
